Kelsey Sawvel, FNP, ARNP

I'm passionate about orthopedic care and helping patients improve their mobility, physical function and overall quality of life. I enjoy working with patients across a variety of orthopedic needs and strive to provide individualized, evidence-based care that supports each patient’s unique goals and lifestyle. Building meaningful and trusting relationships with my patients is very important to me, as I believe patients should feel heard, supported and actively involved in decisions about their care. Through open communication and shared decision-making, my goal is to help patients better understand their condition and treatment options so they can feel confident in the plan we develop together. I find it especially rewarding to help patients reduce pain, regain function and return to the activities most meaningful to them.

Why did you become a provider?
I'm passionate about helping others and making a meaningful, positive impact on the lives of my patients. Being a provider allows me to build trusting relationships with patients while helping them better understand their health and feel empowered to be active participants in their care. I value patient education and open communication, and I find it incredibly rewarding to provide patients with the knowledge and support they need to make informed decisions about their health. Ultimately, I hope to help each patient feel heard, supported and confident in their care.

Why did you decide to join UnityPoint Health?
My connection began through my undergraduate and graduate nursing education at Allen College and continued throughout my clinical training, where I had the opportunity to learn alongside many UnityPoint Health providers. Through these experiences, I gained an appreciation for the organization’s commitment to teamwork, collaboration and patient-centered care. I chose to join because its values align closely with the kind of provider I strive to be, and I'm excited to continue growing within an organization that has played such an important role throughout my nursing career.

Most important thing to know about you?
I truly value a patient-centered, collaborative approach to care. I believe the best outcomes are achieved when patients feel heard, respected and actively involved in decisions about their health. I strive to create an open and trusting environment where patients feel comfortable asking questions, discussing their concerns and sharing their goals so that we can develop a treatment plan together that best fits their individual needs and lifestyle.

What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time, I love spending time with my husband and our red lab, Baker. I also enjoy staying active and making the most of time spent with the people I love.
