Professional Statement
Amy Couchman, MA, CCC/SLP, CNT is a licensed and certified speech-language pathologist with more than 26 years of experience.
At Blank Children’s Hospital, Amy provides speech-language pathology services to infants and children with a wide range of medical and developmental needs. She works throughout the inpatient setting, including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Newborn Nurseries, General Pediatric Units and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). She also performs modified barium swallow studies for inpatient and outpatient populations.
A significant focus of Amy’s practice is caring for infants and families in the NICU. She also participates in the NICU Developmental Follow-Up Clinic, which allows her to continue supporting NICU infants and their families after discharge as they transition home and progress through their developmental journey. Amy values the opportunity to provide continuity of care, partner with families, monitor development and celebrate each child’s progress over time.
Amy’s passion for neonatal care led her to become a Certified Neonatal Therapist (CNT) in 2021. She is also certified in the Neonatal Oral Motor Assessment Scale (NOMAS) and is active in the National Association of Neonatal Therapists (NANT). Her CNT certification and involvement with NANT allow her to stay engaged with current research, best practices, and advances in neonatal developmental care and incorporate that knowledge into her clinical practice.
She is dedicated to caring for medically complex infants and supporting families throughout their journey, including challenges related to feeding, swallowing and speech-language development. Amy is passionate about partnering with families and interdisciplinary teams to provide individualized, evidence-based care that supports each child’s development, enhances quality of life and helps every child reach their potential and learn to fly.
